Ok well I'm off now to Winchester to work for IBM for 8 weeks.

Winchester is near the IBM place in Hursley, both near southampton (the very southern end of england). I live in the north east, 500 miles away so its about a 7 hour drive. Get that yanks, the entire length of england is only 500 miles. Well its a long way for me!

I'll not have net access at my place of residence so I may be around a lot less. I think the weeks will fly by though, if I do enough stuff and keep busy.

Come to Southampton some time and you, tom and I can have a drink. I'm working in soton over summer.

Simon - sounds like a good idea! I'll get back to you on that one.

Got debian installed on my desktop today - wasn't easy, had to use that jigdo program to build a debian iso from an ibm internal debian mirror, then copy that across to the ext2 partition, mount it as a loopback device to allow apt to use it, in order to get the kernel sources for a version which was compatible with this intel network card. When that was done the rest was easy (and very fast)
