08/10/2003 Entry: "birfday"

I can't remember my 13th birthday, but I doubt the day in 1996 that ushered in my teenage years was any more exciting than it was memorable. Yesterday I turned 20, and in a fitting reflection of the last seven years it was spent mostly sitting around in my house and wasting time on my computer, before going out, drinking alcohol, and failing to score, towards the end.

Despite this supposedly being a "holiday" from university, I've actually spent the last 7 weeks working 9-5, 5 days a week (not 7 sorry, thank god). What a topsy turvy world I live in. My job involves sitting at a computer and doing thing related to the issuing of certificates for courses like 'introduction to knitting' that various colleges run. Sometimes I'm entering results into a database, sometimes I'm registering new students, sometimes I'm printing certificates out. The only constant is boredom. Still it could be a lot worse, it certainly was last year.

The new Mewse album got leaked on the 8th so I've been listening to that. I've been reading Dubliners by James Joyce, apparently all Irish men used to do was go out, get drunk, come home and beat up their kids. I also watched the last ever episode of Futurama today, it was pretty good, the Fry/Leela ending was nicely understated.

I'd write more but I'm feeling somewhat ill, I think I ate too much chocolate today.

I haven't read dubliners yet. I've wanked around a bit with Finnegan's Wake (mostly for bragging rights with another guy with similar motives) and a bit of Ulysses. I think I'm going to have to take a class that deals with that one though, to get the most out of it and all.
