I just spent two hours trying to think up a topic for my Individual Project so I could write up an initial proposal (which is due in at 12 tomorrow). After much soul-searching (soul-seeking?) I finally decided on one and now have the finished document printed out beside me. Project Title: JaDE - A Java Doom Editor.
Goddamn that game, will I ever be rid of it?
I didn't have a clue what else to do though. I thought about writing some kind of content management system, but I'd have no real clue how to go about doing dynamic website stuff in Java, and my project supervisor said it really needed to be a more specific task than just "a content management system". I was actually supposed to write up this proposal yesterday and send it to him for approval, but I didn't, since it didn't exist obviously. I'm not too sure what he'll think about this new idea I've gone for, but I'll have already submitted it by the time he knows about it! Haha, I win methinks! Unless of course they reject the proposal, which they probably will, in which case I'l be back to square one. Only now my project supervisor will hate me for lying to him and submitting some insane idea about making an editor for some ancient game called Doom, in Java.
In fact if they do reject it I might just drop out and move in with Arioch. Surely you can spare a room for a poor illegal-immigrant Limey, you rich bastard? I'll pay my board by cleaning shoes or something (probably mainly Arioch's, he has a thousand pairs, he's so rich). But in my spare time I'll while away the hours making the greatest Doom Editor ever, in Java. Then when I'm finished I'll take it back to my university, smash my way into my former project supervisor's office and install it on his computer in front of his astonished face. Oh how he'll swoon in awe at this vision of programming and software engineering genius, in Java. "Yes!" I'll say. "Yes, this is what I would have produced if only you'd allowed me to continue with my project idea. Look at its awesome interface, feel its unmatched functionality and style, cower beneath its incredible scriptability and extendable plug-in structure, in Java!" By that point either he'll be dead, don't ask me how, or why, or what I'm doing with that gun. The resulting police chase, trial and execution can be skipped over.
So in conclusion I think we'd all better hope that they do accept this idea, most of all Arioch's mom.
